Why are Indian Athletes against cricket in Olympics?

While selling of the old newspapers in the afternoon, I came across this article which had many Indian Athletes against cricket entering the Olympics.

Why shouldn’t be the cricket be in the Olympics?

The replies from these athletes were that if cricket entered into the Olympics then their sport will be even more deteriorated.

I don’t understand how is it going to help these athletes who go to the Olympics, try their level best and still don’t find place in the medals list, have a problem with or without cricket being in the Olympics.

Why is that they only think about it from the Indian Community point of view.

What about the other cricket loving nations? Don’t the cricketers from different nations want to be a part of the biggest ever and most prestigious sport and games event?

And even if you take it from the Indian Community context also, the government is giving the same amount of support to each and every sport. It is the BCCI, which is the Indian Cricket Board, which is taking the initiative to flourish the sport. And up till the achievement of the World Cup in 1983, Cricket in India was considered to be the same as all sports and games in the nation.

Because of its increase of popularity in the nation, do the athletes think that if cricket enters into the Olympics it would lower their status in the society?

I don’t think so.

They do not want cricket in Olympics because the attention will shift away from them. In addition, they will lose what little sponsorship they have.

So you are saying that they are acting insecure here are they.

Well in that case, they should start thinking sensibly.

I doubt that popularity of the sport in India will increase if it goes to the Olympics. I doubt that there will be new sponsors for the indian cricket team even if cricket enters the senario.

And yea according to me it was the 1983 world cup victory which catapulted cricket in india to such a state. If these athletes can prove themselves on the big stage then am sure that there will be more sponsors and there will be more hype about the sport. Look at Abhinav Bindra and the other two bronze medalist. They are now there sports brand ambassador because of just one medal they won for themselves. They have been getting a lot of money just with one victory. If they can win more of the games and bring out to the public, I am sure the other sports will be on par with cricket.
